The Family run business was bought in January 2015 by us (Kevin, Janet, Carrie and Buxton the dog).

After an awful lot of love and care going into renovating the building, by a fantastic team of workmen. The Beggars Roost was then opened on 1st April 2015. Since that date we have continued to carry on the hard work, getting the hotel up and running along with the function room too.

Originally from Kent, after a long search for the perfect property, we fell in love with the Beggars Roost and Exmoor Manor Hotel and hope you will too when you visit.

Meet the team

    Landlord – Previously in the banking and money market in London then became a Police Officer in the Metropolitan Police before moving to Devon.
  • Janet


    Landlady / Hotel Manager & Resident Artist – Previously head secretary in a London bank
  • Carrie


    Function and Events Manager – Previously Sales and Marketing Manager and Divemaster in Sharm el Sheikh.
  • Buxton


    Pub Dog- Previously lazy ……. And still is!
  • Andy


    Head Chef- Has lived and worked in the local area for the past 20 years. He was Head chef at the Tors Hotel in Lynmouth and has been awarded with an AA Rosette for his culinary skills.

    Andy came to work with us before we opened and has played a huge part in not just the kitchen but also in the renovation work and our day to day running of the business.

    We are sure you will agree, his cooking is amazing and (as quoted by one of our visitors) serves the best roast dinners, a Beggars Roast!

    Along with us in the management team we also have a team of kitchen and bar staff that are fabulous and help us every step of the way in our new adventure.
